What is my calling?!? Well, this will pertaining to my Interview post. I had an interview and it went great! The manager was going to talk to his boss and let me know something within the next day. Sigh of relief, right? WRONG! My current supervisor, district manager, and regional manager found out that I was trying to leave the agency. Did they give me a farewell speech and say good luck! Nope. They asked why I was wanting to leave and they wanted me to stay. I was honest and told them I just work a LOT of overtime and I don't like that I am on call 24/7. I also said that we are getting a lot of cases put on each of us to handle. They had a solution. Offer me to transfer to a smaller parish. I would get a lower caseload count and it would not be as high of a stress level.
Is this really happening? I thought my mind was made up that I was leaving foster care because I was overwhelmed. I was going to take the other job and move forward.
Then my managers gave me reasons WHY they wanted me to stay. They said I am "a people person" who works well with the clients. I am a dedicated worker who cares for people and their best interest. "You're good at what you do." The other job I had an interview work would consist of a lot of paperwork sitting in an office, however i LOVED that I began work every single day at 8:00 AM and got off at 4:30 PM, off on weekends NO MATTER WHAT. When you are a foster care worker, emergencies come up with cases and you could work late a lot.
They asked if I would at least think about it, so I did. The next day I was in the "field" all day doing family visits, visits with just parents, and visits with just the foster children. It hit me...
This is My Calling
Since I am a people person NOT a paper person. I should be out showing God's love to others. I like coming home each daying knowing I tried to make an impact in someones life. The main reason I stick around is for the kids, however I do like being there for the parents as they go through a rough time and try to find out what got them to this point. It's all about the kids.. I love love love children!
Note: the following pictures are NOT clients. They are my friend's kids! :-)

So, so proud of you!!!!! Ahhh, but what does transferring you to another parish mean??? And hahahaha to these pictures!! I think the last one is my faaaaavorite!!!
ReplyDeletei love this post!! :) ps yeah people who didnt go to grad school are so out of my friend list... sorry :)
ReplyDeleteJust came across your blog...and I'm a brand new blogger too! =) Still trying to learn everything, haha
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you've found your calling...that's not an easy thing to do!
Candace, how ironic indeed. God is great at coordinating things. I have heard from several people about yesterday's teaching being just what they needed to hear. What amazes me is I had scheduled 2 Peter 1:10-11 for yesterday several weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteKeep your ears to the Spirit. Now that you have found your calling, do what my professors told us to do...nurture the call. Learn all you can about your field. Find other people who share your calling and learn from them.
Remember, you are a part of a movement that is bringing restoration to the world, and foster care is your charge.
Grace and Peace,
Dustin
